Side-Lying Stretch Pose

Side-Lying Stretch Pose stretches the intercostal muscles on the sides of your body. These muscles help to lift the ribs during normal inhalation and draw the ribs down during strong exhalation. If they are tight, movement of the rib cage is limited, and so is respiration. By stretching the intercostal muscles, breathing is enhanced. This stretching is important if you have had long-term breathing problems, such as asthma.
